Botanical Arts

A Four-Week Seasonal Creative Series

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the botanical world in this inspiring four-week series exploring flowers and plants through a variety of creative processes.

Throughout the month, we’ll work with fresh and dried flowers, natural materials, and seasonal colour while exploring floral design, botanical jewelry, printing, papermaking, and natural ink-making. Each week introduces a new process, with projects designed to build upon one another as we move through the series.

Many of the flowers and botanical materials used throughout the course are grown in the Studio 77 gardens and flower patch in Woodbridge, Ontario, with additional materials thoughtfully sourced from local growers.

Each session includes step-by-step instruction, creative guidance, and plenty of room for experimentation and personal expression. No previous experience with art or floral design is necessary. Whether you’re looking to learn something new, reconnect with your creativity, or simply spend a few autumn Sundays making with your hands, this series offers a relaxed and welcoming space to explore the season through art.

Sundays in October
October 4, 11, 18 & 25
10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Week 1 — Floral Design

We begin with fresh seasonal flowers and an introduction to floral design. Learn how to work with colour, texture, form, and composition as you create your own hand-tied bouquet to bring home and enjoy.

Week 2 — Botanical Jewelry

Working with fresh botanical materials, we’ll take flowers off the stem and transform them into something wearable. Create your own piece of floral jewelry, choosing between a flower cuff, ring, lapel piece, or hair piece. You’ll bring your creation home—and are encouraged to keep it as it dries, as we’ll return to these materials during our final class.

Week 3 — Prints & Paper

Explore the marks, impressions, colours, and textures that plants can leave behind. We’ll experiment with botanical printing before creating our own handmade paper, incorporating flowers and natural materials into the finished sheets.

Week 4 — Natural Inks

Our final gathering brings the season full circle. Using botanical materials collected and preserved from the weeks before, we’ll explore the process of making and working with natural inks.

Together, we’ll transform the colours and remnants of our time together into a personal record of the season. You’ll leave with a small collection of original works on archival paper—a botanical colour study capturing October through the materials we worked with along the way.

All flowers and materials are provided.

Suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike.

Botanical Arts is a seasonal Studio 77 offering. The next series will take place in October 2027 in Vaughan, Ontario.
